Was bleibt einem angesichts einer solchen Tatsache denn übrig, außer vor lauter Argwohn mit der Stirn zu runzeln? Strebt ein Künstler mit dem erneuten Aufnehmen eines schon fast verglommenen Albums de facto gegen die eigene Perfektion oder sind vielmehr lukrative Aussichten die Motivation jener Willfährigkeit?
Im Grunde gilt es, hier einen kurzen Vergleich zu ziehen zwischen dem damaligen „Errances Oniriques“ und dem jetzigen, und erstaunlicherweise ist der Weg zu der Erkenntnis, dass eine derartige Re-Interpretation allseits gerechtfertigt werden kann, kürzer als anzunehmen wäre. Die ursprüngliche Version nämlich erscheint mit ihrem relativ schmächtigen Klanggewand nun sichtlich ungeeignet, die eigentliche Kraft der Kompositionen in ausreichendem Maße darzustellen, zumal technisch noch etwas unbehände. Loïc Cellier kommerzielle Absichten zu unterstellen wäre demnach überflüssig und verfehlt.
Gleichermaßen unangebracht ist die allgemeine Kategorisierung des einstigen Debüts, obschon sich anhand des keltischen Sujets vorerst nichts anderes anzubieten scheint, als „Errances Oniriques“ mit dem Pagan-Stempel zuleibe zu rücken. Richtiger wäre jedoch eine Bezeichnung, die sich den Charakteristika des Nordic Black Metal nähert; zahlreiche, wunderbar atmosphärische Akustikmomente legen den Grundstein dafür und umschweifen den Hörer mit der jungfräulichen Sänfte ihrer nokturnalen Aura. Weitere Attribute stellt das in seiner Gänze so kraftvoll und dynamisch agierende Konstrukt der neun Stücke, die nicht nur ungemein findig strukturiert sind, ergo über ein hohes Maß variationsfördernder Eigenschaften verfügen, sondern ebenso anrührende, das heißt emotionale Qualitäten für sich beanspruchen. Akzentuiert wird dies anhand archaischer Chorgesänge, deren Façon dergestalt authentisch ist, dass so mancher Augenblick ihres Erscheinens durchdrungen ist von einem erhabenen Gefühl von Melancholie und Zeitlosigkeit.
Und auch sonst brilliert „Errances Oniriques“ mit der Fähigkeit, den Zuhörer in eine imaginäre, doch stark umrissene, detailreiche und altertümliche Welt sinken zu lassen, die nicht nur erfüllt ist von der intensiven Beschäftigung mit keltischer Kultur, sondern gleichermaßen die tiefe Verbundenheit mit rauer, ursprünglicher Natur erhebt. Abgesehen davon, dass die mächtige Produktion mitunter zu viel Aufmerksamkeit an sich reißen will, ist dieses behutsam restaurierte Debüt also in jeder Hinsicht der formidable Ertrag eines ernstzunehmenden Perfektionisten.

Review: English Version

There’s nothing else for it but to furrow one’s brow. Does an artist really aspire at his own perfection with re-recording an almost faded album or is it lucrative expectations which motivated such compliance?
Basically, it is about drawing a short comparison between the then „Errances Oniriques“ and the current one, and astonishingly the way of the insight that such a re-interpretation is legitimate in every case is shorter than ever expected. Namely, the former version with its relatively tiny sound now appears obviously inappropriate to illustrate the actual power of the compositions to a sufficient degree, not to mention the clear shortfall of technical means. So, according to this it would be absolutely superfluous and amiss to impute commercial goals to Loïc Cellier.
Incongruous in the same way is the general categorisation of the erstwhile debut, although due to the Celtic theme there seems to be nothing else for the time being than treating “Errances Onirques” with the Pagan-stamp. However, it would be more correct to use a designation which comes close to the characteristics of Nordic Black Metal; numerous, wonderfully atmospheric moments of acoustics provide the fundament for that and embrace the listener with the virgin softness of their nocturnal aura. The in its entity so powerfully and dynamically operating construct of the nine songs puts further additions, which not only feature an extraordinarily resourceful structure - ergo are endued with a high degree of variation-charging attributes -, but likewise win favour with affecting, i.e. emotional qualities. That is being accentuated by dint of archaic choir-chants, whose way of expression is suchlike authentic that some winks of their appearance are penetrated by an august feeling of melancholy and timelessness.
In the further course as well “Errances Oniriques” shines with the ability to let the listener sink down into an imaginary, but strongly outlined, detail-rich and ancient world, which is not only fraught with the intensive consideration of Celtic culture, but also reveals a profound bond with raw and primordial nature. Thus, apart from the fact that the mighty production is sometimes too keen to grab attention, this cautiously restored debut in every regard is the formidable earning of a serious perfectionist.
